Welcome to the ‘Experience Day' Overview, it's here that you'll find out more about them and how they are structured.
An ‘Experience Day' isn’t just a great treat to yourself, or the photographer in your life, it's a wonderful opportunity to visit some of the best photography locations in Hampshire, whilst adding a host of new skills to your 'kitbag'. Enjoy an inspirational day out, learning at a pace which suits you, in a relaxed and carefully selected environment.
Tutor/Student Ratio.
These Experience Days are 'Guided' and have a 1:1 Coach/Delegate ratio (except where either the Family/Carer or Under 18 option has been selected, in which case it will be 1:2).
Guided ‘Experience Days’ vs Guided ‘Courses & Tutorials'.
With a bias towards ‘the overall experience’ rather than 'full on' intensive learning, these Experience Days allow us to review some of the teachings from my Guided Learning Programme, whilst taking full advantage of the photographic opportunities which will present themselves throughout the day. You can let the day unfold naturally, with a leisurely agenda, or increase the intensity with a more learning focused structure. Either way, you will take away many important skills in your selected genre, as well as plenty of wonderful images from the day.

Your Guide
All the Experience Days are 'Guided' by myself. I have a very good knowledge of the locations we’ll be visiting and will tailor the day to suit the type of subjects that you would like to capture. If you would like to find out more about me, please visit my about page.
Experience Levels
There is total flexibility in the content of the day which will be adjusted to suit your experience requirements. If there’s a particular topic that you would like covered, within the genre you have selected, then please let me know prior to the day.
Included in the Price
As well as being Guided, all Experience Days include 1:1 Coaching (except the Family and Under 18 Options where it is 1:2). Recipients will be presented with three Reportage Style Photographs of themselves ‘in action’ as a memento of the day. The price also includes a critique of your images and we will review them via a follow up Zoom call, normally within two weeks of the ‘Experience Day'. The following Experience Days have additional features which are included in the price:
The Winchester Experience Day includes the entry fee to Winchester Cathedral.
The Vintage Camera Experience Day includes the use of the Vintage Camera and Lenses* which you have selected from the options in the Experience Day description (*For the Nikon F3 and Bronica Etrsi options you can choose 2 lenses from a selection). It also includes two 36 exposure films, developing of the films and digital scanning (normally received within 7-10 working Days). The scanned images will be sent to you by email and the negatives posted to you on receipt.
The Flower Photography ‘Experience Day’ includes the entry fee to the Gardens.
The Experience Days
There are Six Guided Experience Days to choose from. Further information about each of them can be found in the appropriate Sub Heading in the Experience Day Menu.
Equipment
Please bring your camera, lens/lenses and associated equipment, suitable for the genre that you have selected eg. tripod, camera bag etc. If you don't have the equipment, or you feel that your equipment might not be suitable, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can look at the options. There will be the opportunity to shoot for several hours, so don't forget your memory cards and batteries. Depending on the location and weather, we will also need to consider appropriate footwear/clothing/safety wear. Equipment Hire
Third Party Camera equipment is available for hire from a number of specialist hire companies, I'm very happy to discuss with you the best options for your budget and selected genre. ‘In House' Camera equipment hire is also available, although the selection is limited. (Please contact me if this is something that you would like to know more about).
Structure
The day starts at 09:30 and finishes at 17:30 (we break for a half hour working lunch, around 12:45), if you're in the process of learning the genre we’ll start by discussing and practicing the skills required to capitalise on the opportunities which you will encounter during the day. If you're an experienced photographer and you're comfortable with the genre we'll get on with finding some incredible compositions. Either way I’ll be with you throughout the day to Guide you and to provide advice on technique, as well as compositional ideas and inspiration, as required. Lunch and refreshments
Whilst Covid19 restrictions are in place, the prices for the experience days have been adjusted to reflect that lunch and refreshments are not included in the package. It is very important to keep well fuelled and hydrated in a learning environment so please don't forget to bring a packed lunch and refreshments with you.
Location/Venues
The Locations have been carefully selected for their suitability for the genre selected and also to provide the best range of photographic opportunities. Whilst Covid19 restrictions are in place, the Locations/Venues will be within the Southern Hampshire area (as far North as Winchester). Occasionally there may be a need to alter the venue, due to weather conditions etc, should this be the case, I will select a suitable alternative and provide as much notice as possible.
Accessibility
Please do not hesitate to let me know about your accessibility preferences. Whilst all Courses and Tutorials have options suitable for a wide range of needs, it's important that we communicate to avoid any assumptions being made.
Age Guidlines
‘Experience Days’ are suitable for ages starting from 12 years. Under 18’s must be accompanied by a Parent, Carer or Guardian. Should a Parent, Carer or Guardian wish to participate in an Experience Day, Course or Tutorial with their under 18 family member please note that I offer a Special Family Rate which can be found in the Pricing section of this website.
Parents, Carers and Guardians
Please complete the appropriate details for Parents, Carers and Guardians in the Health and Safety form at the time of booking (personal information is gathered and used in accordance with the privacy policy detailed below). (Whilst Covid19 restrictions are in place please comply with the prevailing Government Support Bubble rules). Should a Parent, Carer or Guardian wish to actively participate in an Experience Day, Course or Tutorial, please note that I offer a Special Family/Guardian/Carer Rate which can be found in the Pricing section of this website.
Health & Safety
I treat the subject of your health and safety very seriously. There are a number of hazards involved in the locations we visit and which require special consideration. You will be provided with a Health and Safety briefing which will be emailed to you prior to the commencement date of your Experience Day. Please take the time to read this briefing and to bring the appropriate Clothing, Footwear and Equipment to the Venue.
COVID19
I will conduct my interaction with you in line with the Government Covid19 guidelines which are in force at the time. Please be prepared to adhere to these guidelines and to bring appropriate P.P.E. relevant to your health risk status. I will do the same and will provide sundry items such antibacterial wipes for opening gates etc. and circumstances where any unavoidable contact with camera or equipment takes place. If either you, or I, experience symptoms prior to, or during the Course/Tutorial we must inform each other immediately and postpone/curtail the session. Please note that access to venues such as Winchester Cathedral may be affected by Covid19 Restrictions, should this be the case, the price will be adjusted accordingly.
